According to the new astonishing release of The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, called Mutations EP I was eager to get some background information about this project. And I found an interesting article on Antiphon.

Actually it doesn't matter what kind of hard-/software an artist uses to produce his tracks as long as he's satisfied with the results. But a live gig is a LIVE gig and when the machines broke they're BROKEN.
And so did the laptop of Mr. Tim Exile at the “Warp Overkill tour” 2006. To be exact it was the 16th November of 2006 and I was excited to hear and see Tim’s live performance at the Icon, Berlin - by the way the distance to my residence was about 250 kilometers. I didn't know any of the names on the flyer (except for Tim). But there were interessting live performances from the gabber-breakcore-chiptune part of DJ Scotch Egg (produced by the use of two Gameboys), to the vocal-noise cutting-metal-penises part of Kunt. Finally the time had come for the main act and I was excited like a little boy in a candy shop. Tim Exile live on stage. Wow! But he looked a little bit nervous during the set up.
After perceived half an hour he shaked his head and meant that his laptop won't do anything. I couldn't believe it! Tim Exile LIVE on stage and nothing to hear! I cursed his laptop forevermore.
Lately I saw an interview on the electronic beats - slices dvd (issue 4-08) with Tim Exile. And for my surprise he was performing with a MacBook (and it worked). Probably a good decision. Who knows, perhaps quality really pays?!
On my travels through electronic landscapes I discovered a great artist who isn't only able to build beats! I'm talking about Arnold Steiner aka "AS1"! His electro tunes let us remember the old days: deep, mysterious, straight …I love this sound! For instance he released at Solar One Music (aka Raw Mechanics), Transient Force (founder) or Black Montanas.
But what this guy is serving to our eyes is definitely individual, too (watch: @ www.as1projects.com or www.myspace.com/as1projects). He designs album artworks (e.g. for Planet Mu) as well as other experimental pics. In collaboration with Phoenix Perry he also created an experimental video called "Drawdown", for the sounds of Brian Jackson

I don't know him, but I found this video and I shouldn't be at all surprised if we know him in the near future. This trailer looks definitely promisingly and I hope that we can see more from this guy soon! ...and what's this cool track in the background...?
